Govt. Concerned about Threats on Female Journalist's Life
The attention of the Government of Liberia is seriously drawn to reported threats on the life of a Liberian female journalist because of the publication of articles related to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The relevant security agencies are investigating the report.
Pending the outcome of the investigation all necessary precautionary measures have been put into place to ensure that all those associated with the investigation are safe. Notwithstanding, the GOL will neither countenance nor accept any form of intolerance whose objective is to stifle the exercise of individual freedoms and to frustrate the advance of civil liberties.
As we strive to build upon the hard-earned gains of peace and to consolidate the new-found values of our emerging democracy, the unwavering commitment of this administration of the Liberian Government has been, and will remain, to cultivate the virtues of a freer, more open and more tolerant Liberian society. On account of the record of this administration, there ought to be no doubt that the GOL will go to any length necessary in order to protect the rights, freedoms and liberties of every Liberian citizen, as well as those who reside within our borders.
