Reaching Basic Services To The People Through Housing
The revelation by the National Housing Authority that Government has earmarked 50 million to construct 2OOO Housing Units in Rural Liberia is a multiplier effect of government's decentralization plan.
It is a truism that development agents in the country have been declining to take up assignments in the interior because of the lack of housing for them in those areas. Actually, teachers, agricultural extension agents, nurses, doctors, community development agents and cooperative officers have all hesitated over the years to take up posting in the counties because they cannot be accommodated there.Taking the NHA Managing Director's word to heart would mean that few months from now, the Ministries of Education, Health, Agriculture , Finance and even the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization and the Liberia National Police would be able to send their staff to take up assignments in throughout the country in places where they would be accommodated in the new housing units which would be provided by the NHA. The multiplier effect we mentioned earlier is in reference to the services these Ministries and their agents would render the people. When these houses are built, more Teachers would be assigned to the counties – and even, more schools would be constructed. The New Liberia Newspaper applauds the Managing Director, the Management of the National Housing Authority and the Government for initiating this mammoth project which when completed will bring progress and development to the various counties where these housing would be constructed.
