MONROVIA, July 10 (LINA) - Education Minister Etmonia David Tarpeh has urged the Liberian media to join the Ministry of Education to improve the country’s education system.

Minister Tarpeh said the media has a significant role to play in revamping the Liberian education system through the dissemination of relevant information relating the sector.

The Education boss made the statement Thursday at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) weekly press briefing on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

She said the country’s education system is in a crisis and requires the collective efforts of all Liberians to ensure that the country's education system is strengthened to be on par with others in the sub-region.

She explained that the Ministry of Education has been able to put into place a hi-tech system at its central office to monitor the performance of teachers and staff of the ministry in the performance of their duties at their various job sites.

Minister Tarpeh pointed out that Liberians who have been complaining about the education sector fail to realize what caused the education sector to be “a mess” and are not suggesting any solutions to improve the sector.

According to her, the Ministry of Education has put in place measures to improve and develop the education sector that would prepare Liberians to meet up with the challenges confronting the country’s development drive.
